About the event
Trailblazers: Celebrating Women Composers is an inspiring concert showcasing the creativity and innovation of women composers in band literature, and is a celebration of groundbreaking musical voices. This concert highlights a dynamic repertoire spanning bold fanfares, evocative rhapsodies, and thrilling contemporary works. The program opens with Elizabeth Raum’s One Hundred Years of Fanfares, followed by Julie Giroux’s Italian Rhapsody, transporting listeners to Italy with vibrant melodies. Joan Tower’s Fascinating Ribbons and Erika Svanoe’s Steampunk Suite bring rhythmic energy and whimsical storytelling. After intermission, Yukiko Nishimura’s Key West Pink! adds lively charm from Florida’s southern-most vacation spot, while Julie Giroux’s Culloden offers a dramatic depiction of the historic British-Scottish battle of 1746. The concert concludes with Carolyn Bremer’s stirring and driving Early Light, inspired by our nation’s “The Star Spangled Banner”.
All concerts are free and open to the public. Concerts start at 4:00 p.m. and doors open at 3:00.
